Obituary of Linas "Bill" Billings Jr.

Bangor – Linas “Bill” Billings Jr., 80, passed away peacefully April 3, 2024, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, following a lengthy battle with dementia. He was born March 9, 1944, in Presque Isle, the son of Inez (Haines) and Linas B. Billings Sr. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in Vietnam. Upon return, he worked the majority of his career at Pinkham Lumber/ Bowater. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his retirement days roaming the trails through his beloved Northern Maine woods on his ATV or puttering in his garage while chatting with his buddies. He held many roles in his lifetime, Son, Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle Billy, Friend, Foreman or that guy in the brown bathrobe, sitting on his front deck, waving to everyone passing by his house. Regardless of which role he played in your life, he had an incredible gift of making each and every person he spoke to feel like they were the most important person in his world at that moment. His sense of humor and ability to fill the room with laughter with his jokes and quick wit will be missed as much as the hugs he gave that made you feel like everything was going to be alright. He was kind, compassionate, loving and genuinely made this world a better place, simply by being in it. Our hearts are broken, but his mind is now clear, his pain is gone and we are comforted in knowing Heaven has gained a new people greeter. Linas is survived by his children, Monte Billings, of Bangor , Marcia Moriarty and her husband, Bill of Brewer and Michelle Macys of Hummelstown, PA; grandchildren, Ashley & Adam Nute, Adam & Amy Billings, Tyler & Amy Raymond, Micah & Sheila Raymond, Victoria Macys & Katharine Macys ; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Alberta Viel ; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Linas and Inez Billings Sr.; wife, Shirley (Bouchard) Billings; sisters , Dorothy (Graden) Kinney, Shirley (Gene) Rogers, Avis (Warren) Chapman, Alice (Joe) Cannon, and Betty (Del) Voisine. A service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou, followed by a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the Washburn Pentecostal Church, 1202 Main St, Washburn.
