William A. "Bill" Littlefield Obituary

Sangerville – William “Bill” A. Littlefield, 93, passed away peacefully February 22, 2024, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Scarborough. He was born July 7, 1930, in Guilford, the son of Merle F. and Eva R. (Whittier) Littlefield. In 1993, Bill’s special birthday gift was his grandson, Devin Nichols. From that day forward, they celebrated their birthdays together.


Upon graduating from Guilford High School, Bill proudly served in the United States Army and then the Air Force. He settled in Illinois where he and his first wife, Donna, raised their three girls in the home he built. He shared his love of bowling and football with some of his girls. Bill was a Ham Radio Operator and during the Vietnam Conflict, he relayed messages between the soldiers and their families nationwide.


Upon his return to Sangerville in 1973, he met and married, “Dottie” Cunningham. On January 2, 1984, they opened Dottie’s Restaurant in Guilford. Bill took the early 4:00 a.m. shift, working the grill and feeding the local men before they went off to work. He was the bookkeeper and carpenter remodeling an old building that they were both so proud of. Retiring in 1994, Bill spent his days woodworking, hunting, fishing, and taking care of Dottie.


Bill is survived by his children:Sharon Yocum, Nancy Littlefield, Terri Geier and her husband, Robert; his step-children: Fred Cunningham and his wife, Emily, Steve Cunningham and his wife, Debbie, Roxanne Cunningham and her partner, Bill Herbert, Michelle Nichols and her partner, Rick Hall, Jr.; his grandchildren: Matt, Bill, Leigh, Lindsey, Max, Michele, Jason, Ryan, Brooke, Kylie, Haley, Devin, Chelsea and Dale; his 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Donna (Dunkle) Littlefield, his second wife, Dorothy (Leeman) Littlefield, brothers, Merle Jr. and Joseph Drexel Littlefield, and sister, Edwina Morrill. He will be remembered by several special nieces and nephews. Bill’s special friends, Dale Henderson and Steve Coval, helped him remain at Oakes Manor after Dottie’s passing.


Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Burial with military honors will be in the Village Cemetery, Abbot. Arrangements are in the care of The Lary Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Veterans’ Home, Activities Department, 290 US Route 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
