Obituary of Geraldine Hall Godson
Greenville - “Gerry” departed this earthly plain on December 5, 2016. She was born to Leonard and Anna-Marie Hall on August 13, 1932, in Jackman, ME. Gerry graduated Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine in 1950, then continued to earn her degree in Home Economics at Farmington State Teachers’ College. She married the love of her life, Lindley Godson, in 1954. Their married life began in Greenville prior to moving to Waterville in the late 50’s. Gerry and Lin both enjoyed long lasting friends and memories with neighbors on “Martini Avenue”. In 1973 the family made a decision to move back to Greenville.
Gerry was active in the community, and in later years served on the Greenville School Board as chairwoman and C.A. Dean Hospital Board. A woman of many interests her love of world and local events were often discussed in a lively manner. No matter where they were living, Gerry and Lin’s home was open and all were welcome, as she liked to say, “Her door swung both ways.” Her reputation as a hostess to and counselor of many was one to be admired and emulated. To say Grammie G will be missed is a grave understatement. Her love of life and of people kept her rich in lasting friendships. She will live forever in our hearts.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents; brother, Pete; loving husband, Lindley; and her daughter, Anna-Marie “Ree”. She is survived by her daughter, Kim-Allaire; sister, Fran Ziedelis; and grandchildren, Seth and Amie. Also surviving her are her great grandchildren, Joaquin and Elsie. To her extended family and friends, Gerry stated, “Your caring has brought such comfort and precious memories.”
The family wishes to thank the many loving friends who supported and cared for her, including hospice care providers, Marcia, Sophie, Jeannette, and Susie, along with the wonderful staff at C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2017, once the ice goes out. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Geraldine Godson to the Anna-Marie Godson Scholarship Fund, Greenville Consolidated Schools, PO Box 100, Pritham Ave, Greenville, ME 04441.
