Obituary of Barbara (Worster) Roderick
Greenville and Salem, NH - Peacefully, on November 21, 2023, at Greystone Farm in Salem, NH, Barbara Roderick entered into eternal life, surrounded by her loving family. The oldest of 7 children, Barbara was born December 8, 1935, in Rockwood, Maine, the daughter of Lloyd and Evelyn Worster. She went to Greenville High School and upon graduation, married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Roderick, who enlisted in the United States Air Force. Together, they journeyed across the United States to new frontiers including Alaska, Hawaii, Massachusetts, California, Nebraska, and Virginia. Along the way, four beautiful children were added to their family. After military retirement in 1978, the family moved to Hudson, NH.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all who had the pleasure to meet her. She was a gracious hostess, often opening her home to both short and long-term visitors. Her children counseled their guests to immediately accept an offer of food, lest Barbara continue to offer every refreshment imaginable. The welcome, warmth and love she shared lingered with people long after they left.
They retired to Moosehead Lake, ME in 1996, where they delighted in boating, hunting, camping, gardening, and family visits, especially from their grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed meeting with her Red Hat Ladies and loved nothing better than an evening playing cards or cribbage. They returned to Salem, NH in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Lawrence, in 2014. She is survived by her devoted children, Kenneth (Tauna Calise), of Jaffrey, NH, Lisa (Marian Weisenfeld) of Arlington, MA, Lori McCarthy and Kevin (Jennifer) of Salem, NH; her beloved grandchildren, Alexander and Adam Roderick, Eric and Jack Roderick, Cara and Sean McCarthy, Keith (Christa), Petr (Srey) and Brandy Fryklund; great-grandchildren Ivy, Eli, Natalie and Ben Fryklund; her brother, Edward (Carol) Worster; sisters, Beverly Suntum and Mary Ann Bentley; sisters-in-law, Andrea Worster and Lynda Worster; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, November 30 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Greenville, ME, in the spring (details to follow). Interment in the Greenville Cemetery will follow Mass.
