Obituary of Brenda Jean Maguire

Gardiner - Brenda Jean Maguire, 81, passed away November 15, 2023, at Maine General in Augusta. She was born February 21, 1942, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of James Wilson and Selma I. (Bonsey) Howell. She was the first of three siblings and attended Guilford schools, class of 1960. October 2, 1959, she married Paul Walter Vainio and together had four children. She later married James Fred Maguire on June 24, 1978. Brenda took pride in her home and was a fantastic cook; gardening, canning and baking; making her children special birthday cakes. She loved snowmobile drag racing at Sebec Lake sponsored by Jackson Cyr Arctic Cat. She belonged to a bowling league, food extension leader, loved to sew rag dolls, and loved working at the church with her late husband, Jim. She started working at the IGA in Guilford, then worked for Bangor Savings from 1970 - 1980. Following that time she moved to Florida and worked many years as an office assistant in eye care. She loved spending time with her family and friends, hosting game nights. She knew her antiques and was a collector of fine dishes. Brenda is survived by her children and grandchildren, Jennifer Vainio and her daughter, Rebecca Caron of Saco, Steven Vainio and his wife, Shirleen of Monson, and their daughters, Chastity Vainio and partner, Kyle of Parkman, and Hannah Vainio of Greenville; her siblings, James Howell of Redwood City, CA, and Susan Easterbrooks and her husband, John of Yakima, WA; her late husband’s children and grandchildren, Robert Maguire and his wife, Carla of Yarmouth, and their daughter, Haley of Biddeford, and Tanner Maguire and his wife, Abbi, and their son, Shepard of Yarmouth; and several extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James Maguire; two daughters, Julie Ann Vainio and Tami M. (Vainio) Perry; and stepson, Dennis Maguire.
