Sidney, Maine - Virginia Jey (Balboni) Couillard, 88, passed away peacefully November 2, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was born December 25, 1934, in Hyannis, MA, the daughter of Albert and Edith (Barrus) Balboni. “Gini” was raised on Cape Cod (in Sandwich and Barnstable). The Cape remained an important part of her life, visiting her son, Carl, and beloved cousins. She was proud of her Cape heritage being the great-granddaughter of a lighthouse keeper and granddaughter of the village blacksmith in Barnstable, and a direct descendent of a Mayflower family. Virginia married and raised her family in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. She then worked outside the home; her last job was as receptionist for Manchester County Club. She spent many years in Florida with her husband, Albert Couillard. Her hobbies were painting, ceramics, puzzles of all types, and tracing family genealogy. She was also adventurous, often taking road trips around the country; snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, flying in a private plane, in ultralights, and a glider in Hawaii with her husband. She also loved going to Disney World frequently. Gini relocated to Maine with her son, Douglas and his wife, Trudy in 2015, living with them until her passing. Virginia is survived by her son, Douglas Van Knowe and his wife, Trudy, of Sidney, ME; her daughters, Barbara Round of Salisbury, MA, and Victoria Swan of Georgetown, TX; her stepchildren, Victoria Corbeil and her husband, Andre of Salem, MA, Butch Couillard of Beverly, MA, and Dana Couillard and his wife, Monique of Dover, NH; her grandchildren, Brian Van Knowe and Denise Van Knowe of MA, Lia Cairn and her husband Ryan, of NH, Emily Round of NH, Will Round of Ohio, Kellye Couillard and her husband, Phil of Beverly, MA, Tori and Rachael Couillard of Beverly, MA, Adam Corbeil and his wife, Kiva of Boston, MA, Andre Corbeil of Salem, MA, Jeff Couillard and his wife, Emily, and Christopher Couillard all of NH; as well as several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Nicola King of Cape Cod. She will be missed by her dear friends, Lissette and Doug Peddle of Sidney, ME. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Albert Andrew Couillard, and son, Carl Van Knowe. Services will be held in the Spring on Cape Cod. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
