Sangerville – Richard A. Provost, 88, passed away November 4, 2023, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 12, 1935, in Dexter, the son of Maurice and Ruth (Keefe) Provost. Richard was in the Army National Guard for 8 years. He was a supervisor for 43 years in the dye house at Guilford of Maine. Richard also painted homes for many years. He enjoyed antique cars, and later in life jigsaw puzzles and word searches. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a kind friend and coworker, and “Papa” to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thanks to his daughter, Julie, for taking such wonderful care of him the last few years. He will be sorely missed by all. Richard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rita (Higgins) Provost; three daughters, Julie Gilbert and her husband, Calvin, Tina Peasley and her husband, Chris, and Lisa Provost and her significant other, Kevin Speed; sister, Ramona Gordon; nine grandchildren, Calvin, Heidi, Brian, Kristen, Chelsi, Courtni, Aaron, Alli, and Abbi; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Maurice, Roy, Shirley, and Clifford Provost; two sisters, Gloria Ramsdell and Marlene Wiggin; grandson, Drake Martell; and great-granddaughter, Annabelle Crocker.
