Brownville Junction - John Tibbits Ekholm, 87, passed away October 28, 2023, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 18, 1936, in Hampden, the son of Conrad and Celia (Hatch) Ekholm. John was a graduate of Stearns High School in Millinocket, Class of 1955. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Company but was best known for his barber shops in Brownville Junction and Orono. John loved working with the public and will be missed for his great sense of humor, participation in the tractor clubs, singing a ditty, his smile, and his gift of gab. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. John is survived by his wife, Gloria, whom he married Feb. 22, 2014; brother, David Ekholm; sister, Avis Earley; children, Leesa Coates and her husband, Jeff, Hollie Andrews and her husband, Frank, Mark Ekholm and his wife, Cindy, and Bobby Ekholm; step-son, George Cunningham; brothers-in-law, Mike and Harry Crosby; sister-in-law, Gail Bradbury; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Conrad Jr. and Peter Ekholm. All are welcome for a celebration of John’s life 10AM Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Brownville Junction United Methodist Church.
