Obituary of Sally P. Lawson

Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dexter – Sally P. Lawson, 82, passed away October 17, 2023, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. She was born February 26, 1941, in Montpelier, Vermont, the daughter of Robert M. and Constance P. (Morse) Fortier. Sally (Fortier) Lawson grew up in Dexter, and graduated from Dexter High School. She attended Nasson College and received her associate degree. While at Nasson she met her husband of 62 years, John. They moved to Natick, Massachusetts, where they started their family and ran a trucking/freight company together for about 13 years, with Sally doing all the bookkeeping. Following her heart, Sally, along with John and their three young children, moved back to Dexter on the shore of Lake Wassookeag. Sally always had a great love of family and for years used her cooking and entertaining skills in hosting many family holiday get-togethers and family dinners. She was a great cook and hostess, known for her lobster bakes, haddock breadcrumb casserole and numerous other dishes. She was a wonderful businesswoman, homemaker, wife, and grandmother. She had many interests including gardening, fishing, birdwatching, and current events. Sally was always interested in taking on a new adventure, and had a special affinity for traveling. There were many trips to California to visit her grandchildren, summer trips to Florida, Las Vegas adventures, Viking River Cruises, and her recent “trip of a lifetime” to Africa with her daughter, Cynthia. She especially loved being up at her camp in Rockwood and watching the sun rise and set over Mt Kineo. Sally was courageous and unafraid! She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends and especially by her husband, John, who she has taken very good care of, especially over the last 3 years when he’s needed her help even more. Sally is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John Lawson Jr.; three children, Stephen (Heidi) Lawson, Laurie (Bill) Inserra, and Cynthia Lawson; five grandchildren, Wendy (Lee) Lorigan, Kara Lawson and her significant other, Jamie Kane, Billy Inserra, Mandy Inserra, and Danny Inserra; two great-grandchildren, Lee “LJ” Lorigan Jr. and Jack Lorigan; sister, Sandra Padham and her son and daughter, Chris Padham, and Jamie (Chip) Reier and their children. She was predeceased by her parents. Fly free butterfly! We will miss you but carry you in our hearts and minds forever and ever! A private service will be held at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
