+ 1
I first met Herman back in the late 60’s at the restaurant where my sisters and I worked for our parents. He was, and always has been, a “larger than life” kind of guy. From his handsome face to his tall stature, everything about him was big. What I always remember first about him, besides his blue eyes, is his sense of humor. Although by then he was a serious businessman undertaking consolidating his big New York business (Numberall) into the small town of Sangerville, when he was at the restaurant, he loved listening to and making jokes, which were always followed by his big, big laugh.
I was oblivious at the time, to the building romance between he and my sister Cindy. Although she was tiny to his large, they found in each other strong helpmates who enjoyed many of the wonders of life in Maine. Herman was an all-round sportsman and Maine Guide. He also loved aviation, Stanley Steam Cars, traveling, and many other adventures. He lived his life to the fullest possible degree; he and Cindy, together for 54 years. Although “loving” is not the word that comes first to mind, he was passionate about those people and things he cherished, and he built a large circle of friends by sharing those parts of his life.
I miss Herman greatly, and everyday see reminders of all we have lost. He was one of kind, irreplaceable, and I loved him.

To the Bayerdorffer family,
My deepest sympathies in the passing of Mr. Bayerdorffer. He was a very nice and interesting gentleman. I always enjoyed his stories when he would come to the town office. I was especially interested in his horseless carriage. Keep your memories and pictures close for they will get you through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Our deepest condolences to the Bayerdorffer family. We will miss the phone calls from Herman, and seeing him "come in for a landing" by the loading dock here at the shop. We only wish we had known him a little better and a little longer. A multi-generational company is a rare thing these days, and we will do our best to help it continue to thrive.
