Obituary of Lena M. Morrison
Dover-Foxcroft, ME - Just after sunrise on July 31, 2023, Lena quietly passed away at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
Lena was born in Brownville on June 30, 1935, to Anne May Nicholas Heilner. She spent her childhood in the Brownville and Milo area, living with her mother and stepfather, Earl P. Hughey. Lena went to local schools, graduating from Milo High School in 1954 where she participated in many school clubs, school government and was a member of the cheerleading squad.
Her education continued at Husson College in Bangor. Lena married her high school sweetheart, the late Craig D. Morrison in December of 1954. In 1974, Lena moved to Pittsfield, MA, close to her sister. They owned a gift shop and gas station together for a time and Lena eventually began working for General Electric in Pittsfield and Waterford, NY. She retired in 1996 and after a few years, decided to return to Maine.
Settling once again in Milo, Lena did what she loved. She quilted, cross stitched, took drives to see the deer and visited with family. Often, you could find her bombing around with her sister-in-law, Josie, as her side kick.
Lena is survived by her daughters, Nancy R. Brandow of Bradford, Patricia L. Gardner and her husband, Thomas of Hohenfels, Germany and her stepson, Corey Roberts and his children, Danielle and CJ of Lagrange. She is also survived by her sister and friend, Caroline Kacensky of Pittsfield, MA and her brother-in-law, Arthur Richards of Bradford.
Lena had many nieces and nephews, among them are Renee and Michelle, Darlene, Maxine and Michael, Wade, Roger and Skipper. She was especially close to her sister’s sons, William and Thomas, and the Morrison nieces, Lauren, Debbie, Penny, Fran and Tiny, and family friend Sylvia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anne May and Earle P. Hughey, her former husband, Craig D. Morrison, brothers, Albert Edward Nicholas and Lee Barron Heilner, many brothers and sisters-in-law and special brother-in-law, Walter Kacensky.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Milo, on October 12, 2023, at 11 am followed by brunch in Milo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary (PAWS), 39 Clinton St, Milo, Maine 04463. Lena loved animals, especially cats, and would often stop by PAWS to visit and donate to the care of the cats.
Nancy and Patricia would also like to thank the night staff on duty at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, especially her nurse, Ashley, for their professional and compassionate care.
Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, ME. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
