Obituary of Barry Daniel Carleton
Sangerville- Barry Daniel Carleton, 76, passed away peacefully August 3, 2023, at his home in Sangerville. He was born on July 22, 1947, to Charles and Irene (Dulac)Carleton.
Barry spent his childhood summers at Spencer Pond with his Nana and Pepe’ Dulac. He would return to Spencer Pond Camps often during his lifetime to do some fly fishing or bird hunting. After graduation in 1965 Barry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was deployed to Vietnam on the USS Firedrake. He was proud to serve his country.
Upon his return from the Navy, he attended The Portland School of Fine and Applied Art in the photography program, he spent 2 years as a Forest Ranger at Canada Falls, and then followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a well known housepainter and paperhanger; he also renovated homes in the local area. He was a YMCA basketball coach for his son, Ryan, managed the Legion Baseball team for his son, Brook, and was a Selectman for the Town of Sangerville for 8 years.
Barry was a proud, true “Mainer “, he was a hunter, fisherman, trapper and fixer of many things. He was often called upon by his sons and grandson to, “Can you help me fix this? “. He had the patience to teach his sons the game of cribbage at a young age and he could always bandage a skinned knee.
Barry is survived by his sons, Brook Bradley Carleton and partner, Jennifer Dujardin, and Ryan Torrey Carleton. He was able to see his grandson, Cove Bradyn Carleton, become a young man. He was a proud dad and Gramp and happiest when with them. He is also survived by nieces, Shelly, Jill, Joann, and Debi; nephew, Bruce Reed; and his ex-wife and friend, Margie. Barry had many friends throughout his life including in-laws and out-laws! Early childhood friends the St. Louis’, High School friends The Gilbert’s, and Margie’s family became Barry’s family and friends. Barry was predeceased by his parents; his three sisters and their husbands, Rita and Jerry Waterhouse, Sherril and Art O’Connor, Bill Reed, and Janice and Carroll Carle; and two nephews, Scott Waterhouse and Mike Reed.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held 11AM Friday, August 18,2023, at the Village Cemetery in Sangerville. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed atwww.laryfuneralhome.com.
