I had the privilege of working for Betty for about 8 years. She was a wonderful person who always treated me well, and her smile could light up a room. She loved her family above anything else in life. She was justly proud of belonging to the Grange, and she was a faithful member of her church, even when she was unable to physically be there.
Betty loved her crafts, and she was very talented. She could crochet ANYTHING. She once crocheted all of the Winnie the Pooh characters, they came out beautifully. She also made wonderful cards, several of which she gave me; I will always treasure them.
Betty loved cats. She never stopped missing Barney and Miss Pretty. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and she quickly got used to my strange sense of humor.
I will miss our games of Skip Bo as well as comparing notes on movies and books we liked. One day I borrowed a golden retriever puppy and brought it to her for a little visit. Her face just lit right up! I will miss the way her face would light up when I would get her holiday decorations out, she just loved them.
One thing that touched my heart was how grateful and thankful she was for the things I did for her. It was very humbling, because I was just as grateful and thankful for the honor of caring for her.

In dedicating my book to her, I noted, "I came to appreciate both her knowledge of Grange teachings and her commitment to what I later understood to be the Grange way of life. Anyone who knows Betty will understand that we didn't always agree, but Betty truly practices the Grange Motto... In essentials unity; in non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity." I shall certainly miss her energy and enthusiasm for the Grange and for life. On behalf of the members of Valley Grange and the many Grangers around the state who knew and loved her, "We give thanks for the good example and friendship of our sister Betty who has finished her course and now rests from her labors..." and we offer our sincerest sympathy to all who loved her.
