Charleston – Chester E. Smith, 95, passed away March 23, 2023, at Dexter Health Care. He was born August 13, 1927, in Charleston, the son of Cleveland A. and Ethel (Strout) Smith. A U.S. Army veteran, Chester served proudly during World War II. He worked for many years as a carpenter for Elray Veno Carpentry. Chester enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping along with traveling and most importantly, spending time with family. Chester is survived by two sons, Peter K. Smith and wife, Patricia, of Brandon, VT, and Terry E. Smith and wife, Debra, of Charleston; a daughter, Robin L. Smith of Corinth; a sister, Doris Bowden of Kenduskeag; and four grandchildren, Genna Barker, Colby Smith, Tyler Smith, and Cassandra Smith. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Janet (Churchill) Smith; four brothers, Clifford, Clayton, Dana, and Kenneth; and sister, Fern Page. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be conducted at 11AM Monday, May 8, 2023, at the family lot in Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
