Guilford - Catherine J. Ruksznis, 93, passed away peacefully December 13, 2022, at home with family by her side. She was born February 3, 1929, in Waterville, the daughter of Dr. Alfred L. and Mabel (Whitaker) Johnston. Catherine graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1946, and Colby College in 1950. She was an active member of the Guilford United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Hospital Auxiliary, and the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Catherine worked as a telephone operator and service representative for New England Telephone, and left to be a full-time homemaker and mother which she thoroughly enjoyed until it was time to help her children fund their college educations. In 1971, she became a clerk at the Guilford Post Office until her retirement in 1991 when she happily returned to be a full-time homemaker. Her family was her greatest enjoyment. She also enjoyed her friends, volunteering at Hibbard Nursing Home, winters in Florida, and more than 70 summers at Whetstone Pond. Catherine served on the SAD #4 School Board, was a member of Extension, and enjoyed knitting, quilting, and time with family. Catherine is survived by sons, Thomas Ruksznis and wife, Penny Smith Ruksznis of Skowhegan, Frank Ruksznis and wife, Cheryl Hartford Ruksznis of Sangerville; daughters, Mary Smith of Portland, and Judith Folsom and partner, David Bovill of Moultonborough, NH; foreign exchange student daughter, Marina Gomez de Ormeno and husband, Jorge of Mexico City; brother, William (Bill) Johnston and wife, Julie of Poquoson, VA; sister-in-law, Bernadette Johnston of Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren who were the light of her life, Craig, Corey, Hannah, Amanda, Morgan, Alex, Jeffrey, and Jarrod; and 7 great-grandchildren. She also had several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Paul L. Ruksznis; her parents; and two brothers, George and Alfred “Johnny” Johnston. A memorial service will be held 10AM Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Guilford United Methodist Church, with Rev. Marilyn Rohdin officiating, with a reception to follow. Spring burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Guilford United Methodist Church, P.O.
