Obituary of Connie Russell Carey

Milo – Connie Russell Carey, 92, passed on Nov. 15, 2022. Connie was predeceased by her loving husband Galen and her parents Wallace & Laura (Dumond) Russell. Born Feb. 19, 1930, Connie held special memories of 8 siblings and her childhood in Derby, Maine, including her surviving brother, Dick Russell and his wife Pat. She was a faithful member of St. Francis and St. Paul's Catholic Church. She excelled in high school basketball, loved dancing, Bingo, all babies, and often spoke of her lifelong friendship with Norma Dugas McCabe. In 1947 she graduated from Milo High School and was married at 17 to Galen Carey. She never removed her worn wedding ring since the day she was married. Together they had six children of whom she was very proud of. She loved her family most and her only regret was not having the ability to spend more time with them. She will be remembered by her children who were her pride and joy: Brenda and Jim Karpowicz, Debbie (Steve) Johnson, Gayle and Richard Smillie, Susan and Ben Dow, David and Laurie Carey,and Diane Peterson. She had 12 grandchildren: Tracy, Jason, Eric, Lisa, Erin, Emily, Kelly, Ashlee, Matthew, Nycole, Riley and Cloe. Connie also had 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren that were very special to her. Connie spoke highly of her caregivers at New Beginnings Assisted Living Center, Hibbards Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Beacon Hospice. There will be a committal service in the spring at the family plot in the Evergreen Cemetery Milo, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Connie Carey to St. Francis and St. Paul’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 193, Dexter, Maine 04930.
