Obituary of Gail Costigan Burke

Guilford – Gail Costigan Burke’s long and hard fought battle came to an end October 25, 2016, in Boston, with her husband by her side. She was born March 21, 1948, the first-born twin of James “Manny” Sr. and Annie Mae (Nesbit) Costigan. She graduated from PCHS in 1966, and with high honors from D’Lor Beauty School in 1971. In 1973, Gail and her daughter, Laurie, married Carl Burke and his two daughters, Cindy and Christine. In 1974, they had a baby girl, Sandra. Gail graduated from Eastern Maine Community College in 2005 and began working at Mayo Regional Hospital as Unit Coordinator, a job she really loved. After a miraculous recovery from heart surgery in 2013, Gail spent her time with Carl, the love of her life and husband of 43 years, enjoying their time together. Gail was predeceased by her parents; an older brother, Jimmy; a step-daughter, Cindy; and a granddaughter, Bridget. She is survived by her husband, Carl; daughters, Laurie White and her husband, Andy, and Sandra Preston and her husband, Dan; grandchildren, Jessica Burdin, Alysson White, Brooke White, and Andrew White II; a twin brother, Galen Costigan; a big sister, Jane Costigan York; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her “baby boy”, Cuddles Rae. At Gail’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Guilford.
