Obituary of Barbara Carr Herrick
Guilford - Barbara Carr Herrick, 99, passed away peacefully November 1, 2022, at her home in Guilford, with family and her care team by her side.
Barbara was proud to have been honored on March 17, 2022, as the recipient of the Boston Post Cane as being the oldest resident of Guilford, a tradition since the early 1900's in many areas of New England.
Barbara was born in Haverhill, MA, to Dorothy and Winfield Carr. The family moved back to Harmony, Maine, around 1930 where Barbie attended school and graduated from Harmony High School in 1940, with many accolades to her credit. She married Clarence Herrick November 9, 1945, in Harmony and 10 years later they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Nadine, on August 7, 1955.
Barbie enjoyed life to the fullest with many favorite things but her most passionate thing was keeping in touch with all the families and friends in her life - sending a birthday or holiday card, or telephoning or visiting. A very caring person, always willing to help in any way she could. She was an active member of many organizations Garden Club, Rebekah Lodge, Patriarch's Club, etc. Whether it was digging in the dirt to plant a flower in the town square or scrubbing a grill at a food booth for the Harmony Fair, Barbie was there.
Barbie is survived by her daughter Nadine; step-granddaughter, Samantha; step-great-grandchildren, Miracle and Brianna; sisters-in-law, Nancy Bunker, Dorine Carr, Marilyn Carr Durrwachter; brother-in-law, Edwin Durrwachter; and as Barbie would say "a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends." She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Clarence; sisters and brothers in-law, Dorothy and Eldon Barrows, Sharon and Robert Bunker, Jr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Louise Carr, Gordon and Janice Carr, Dana Carr, Vernon Carr; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and her husband's sister and brothers and their spouses, all whom she loved dearly: Ruth and Floyd Hamlin, Sam and Beverly Herrick, Paul and Barbara Herrick, Philip and Elizabeth Herrick
Nadine and all the family would like to express our deepest appreciation for all the loving care given to Barbie by her Care Team during her last few days with us. You will all forever be in our hearts and prayers.
A Celebration of Barbie's life will be published at a later date. Condolences may be left at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
