Kenduskeag - Aartje “Ann” Mitchell, 81, passed away peacefully October 5, 2022, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, surrounded by family. She was born March 17, 1941, in Zeist, Netherlands, the daughter of Cornelius van de Craats and Eva Diena Petronella. Ann met Calvin Mitchell Jr. in 1957 and they married on May 27, 1959, in Oud Zuilen, Holland. Calvin and Ann had three lovely children; Debbie, Calvin III, and Kevin. When stationed in Laredo, Texas, Ann obtained her nursing degree and became a registered nurse in 1970. She also completed a BS degree in professional arts at Saint Joseph College in 1987. Ann went on to earn her master’s degree in public administration through the University of Maine in 1990. Her career in nursing led to working at hospitals in Presque Isle, Caribou, and Van Buren. Ann was one of the first women to work in the field of hospital administration. She retired in 1993 and then filled her days with gardening, knitting, and enjoying quality time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite activities were attending monthly family birthday celebrations at the Stetson Union Church and having tea parties with chocolates. Ann is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, MSgt Calvin Mitchell Jr.; daughter, Debbie Belanger and her husband, Jim; son, Calvin Mitchell III and his wife, Mariah; and son, Kevin Mitchell and his wife, Julie; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Gys, Dien, Nellie; and grand-daughter, Emily Ann. Family and friends are invited to visit at 2:00 PM Monday, October 10, 2022, until time of funeral service at 3:00 PM, at the Corinth United Methodist Church, with grandson-in-law, Pastor Jonathan Ray, officiating. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, on October 27, 2022, at noon.
