Guilford – Elizabeth “Liz” Irene Herring, passed away unexpectedly, June 14, 2022, at the young age of 98, due to complications from Covid-19. She was born April 17, 1924, in Abbot, the daughter of Thomas and Carrie (Coombs) Fitzsimmons. Liz was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Malcolm. Together they had two daughters, Susan and Andrea. She worked as a cook at the Guilford schools, a bookkeeper at the family business, and as a CNA in local boarding Homes. She had recently been honored as a 75 year member of Valley Grange #144. Liz enjoyed her weekly Sunday night poker games with her “poker buddies”, Lisa R., Bette, Linda, and Lisa B. along with a few more. She looked forward to her Friday hair appointments with Shari and Robin. Liz loved time spent with her family. She never missed a family birthday or get together. Liz was a big sports fan, especially the NBA. She loved being able to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the court or on the field. Liz will be loved and remembered by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Herring, and Andrea Gilbert and her husband, Tom; grandchildren, Christine and her friend, Jim, Thomas and his wife, Alicia, Ellie, and Trey; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and her fiancé, Bryan, Tommy, Tyler, Haylee and her husband Mitchel, Bryce, Eve, Kobe, and Gavyn; two great-great-grandsons, Fao and Mj; sister-in-law, Mary Salley; and many special nieces and nephews A graveside service will be held 10am Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the family lot in the Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft.
