Guilford - Ruth E. Conley, 92, went to be with Jesus on February 8, 2022, at her home in Guilford, after a period of declining heath. She was born June 6, 1929, in Bangor, the daughter of Patrick and Isabell (Millett) Gorman. Ruth was raised from infancy by her loving and much-loved foster parents, Gene and Ida Barton in Parkman. On September 3, 1947, after graduation from PCHS, she married her high school sweetheart, Larry Conley. Ruth was employed for many years by Hardwood Products Co., first in the plant and then in the office as customer service representative and as billing and payroll clerk. Ruth was a member of the Abbot Evangelical Free Church, serving as treasurer for twelve years. She belonged to the PCHS Alumni Association, formerly serving as co-president, president and secretary. She was a volunteer at the Guilford Historical Society, the Piscataquis YMCA where she assisted the physically challenged and most recently, she enjoyed her time volunteering at Mayo Regional Hospital. Ruth spent many hours knitting and crocheting afghans, sweaters and mittens for her many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She also donated many of these items to local organizations. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Larry Conley; her brother, James Gorman of Delaware; three half-sisters; Patricia LaForge, Peggy Allen and Enid Baum; half- brother, Lawrence Gorman; foster sister, Eva Meservey; and grandson Wayne Grant. She is survived by her treasured family; daughter, Susan Grant and husband, Ted, of Dover-Foxcroft; four granddaughters, Sheila Chenevert and her companion, David Bartlett, Cathleen Curry and husband, Greg, Christine Lancaster, Kandi Martin and husband, Brent; and grandson, David Grant. She leaves her great-grandchildren, Travis Chenevert and Mallorie, Ryan Chenevert and Jen, Tyler Chenevert, Beth (Chenevert) Melcher and Jimmy, Ashlynn (Curry) McLaughlin and Gage, Macy (Carey) Wentworth and Cody, Mitchell Carey, Brookes Carey, Logan and Lauren Martin. She was also a great-great-grandmother to Ryleigh, Wesley, Grayson, Averie, Tanner, Cooper, Decker, Tenley and Lukas. Ruth is also survived by her dear friend and companion, Joe Phillips. Her family would like to extend thanks to her hospice caregivers – particularly Pam and Erika, who were always available to give the best of care. Ruth and Susie always looked forward to their visits and their smiling faces. A graveside service will be announced in the spring for family and friends to celebrate Ruth’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Guilford Memorial Library, 4 Library Street, Guilford 04443. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
