Obituary of Ann McCaffrey

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Abbot - Ann McCaffrey, 65, passed away at her cherished home in Abbot on January 31, 2022. Ann was born on September 19, 1956, in Massachusetts and loved to joke that while she was not a “native Mainer that she got here as far as she could!” Ann courageously, and victoriously, fought two separate battles with cancer – the first with breast cancer and the second with stage IV lung cancer. With the most recent cancer treatments behind her Ann was looking forward to the future, including traveling, exploring new job opportunities, and adopting a puppy as a companion for her and her beloved Maltese, Emma. Ann was born and raised in Massachusetts, lived in Florida and later found her permanent home in Maine. Ann made an impression on everyone she met, both with her impossibly huge heart and her tendency to always “tell it like it is.” It has been said that you never questioned where you stood with Ann because she herself would make sure you knew it! Being incredibly sentimental, she prized all displays of affection and kept mementos of her experiences and friendships. Ann said her greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her son, Jared, and stepson, Jason, and often took on maternal roles with others who were lucky enough to be in her life. Ann was also a woman of MANY talents, decorating her home with her crafts and often gifting handmade items to friends and family. Ann was so knowledgeable and talented that her friends were unable to find a topic that she did not know at least something about! A particular area of enjoyment for Ann was teaching her friends some of her more colorful phrases and making memories, such as sailing down the river in a 9-foot inflatable unicorn or driving over a hundred miles in Florida to find a very particular coconut turtle souvenir. Ann was predeceased by her mother, Alice Reposa, father, John Reposa, sister, Cindy Smith, sister, Beverly Bedard, and step-son, Jason McCaffrey. Ann is survived by her son, Jared McCaffrey of Florida, sister, Laurie Jones of Florida, sister, Rose Williams of Massachusetts, John Reposa of Massachusetts, James Reposa of Massachusetts, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and her beloved Maltese, Emma. She’s also survived through the significant impacts she has had on her many friends, including Alysson Michaud and Kelsie Snow, whom she unofficially adopted. Per Ann’s direction, there will be no official services. Ann was deeply grateful to the members of her care team but was especially grateful to Dr. Elizabeth Dennis for her thorough and compassionate care both during and after her battle with lung cancer. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Northern Light Mayo Regional Hospital Foundation Patient Oncology Fund, PO Box 131, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
