Obituary of Ronald S. Jones

Greenville - Ronald S. Jones, 77, died on December 2, 2021, in Naples, Florida following a long and courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Ronnie was born on August 26, 1944, in Bangor to Charles and Sylvia (Wilt) Clark. In his youth, he spent considerable time at the farm of his grandparents (Wilt) on the East Road and at Wilson Pond Camps, which his grandfather built. He graduated from Greenville High School and Southern Maine Technical College. He was a member of the Maine Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972. His career after college started with the Scott Paper Company during the log driving era. He retired from the Greenville Water Company after 32 years, including tenure as the superintendent. He learned to plow snow from his uncle, Stan Wilt, and owned and operated Jones Seasonal Services for over 50 years. He also owned and operated Moosehead Rubbish and introduced the first trash dumpsters to Greenville. Ronnie and the late John Cobb coordinated the Fourth of July fireworks for Greenville for over a decade. He was one of the founding members of the Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club, and was a volunteer fireman in Greenville for 14 years. He was also an accomplished pilot. Ronnie married Sharon H. Libby on November 25, 1988, in Greenville. He was active in Sharon’s political career in Augusta and enjoyed campaigning with her. Following retirement, Ronnie and Sharon continued to live in Greenville but spent the winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. He enjoyed traveling with his RV and being with many friends at rallies with the Florida Pelican Club.  Survivors include his wife, Sharon; his first wife, Alice Faye (Bustard) Nye and their sons, David of Portland, Maine and Brian of Augusta; brother, C. Donsworth Jones of Mexico, Maine; brothers-in-law, Gerald Libby of Halifax, Massachusetts, Patrick Buckley of Wallisville, Texas, Ronald Libby of Bonita Springs, Florida, James Hartman of Katy, Texas, Robert Rand of Augusta, Maine, Roger Rand of Hat Island, Washington, and David Rand of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law, Beverly (Libby) Prigmore of Fountain, Colorado, and Karen (Buckley) Dauzat of Alexandria, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon, August 8, 2022, at the Shirley Community Church, Shirley, Maine. Interment will be at the Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greenville Fire Department, P.O. Box 1109, Greenville, ME 04441.
