Obituary of Clifford A. Braley Sr.
Clifford A. Braley, Sr. "Cliff" "Bampa", 78, of Machias, Maine, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with dementia on November 25th, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, his wife, daughter, son-in-law and special family friends Tiffany and Ross. Clifford was born in Skowhegan, Maine to Ora and Violet (Moshier) Braley.
Cliff dedicated 42 years to Law Enforcement as Police Chief in Sangerville, Maine, Machias, Maine, and Ashland, Maine, and as a deputy for Washington and Aroostook County Sherriff’s departments. He retired from a successful career in Law Enforcement in 2012.
Cliff loved outdoor adventures and spent many days either hunting, fishing, boating or riding his ATV or motorcycle. He also enjoyed being with his family and friends at their family camps. Cliff was a very talented musician, he sang as lead vocals and played guitar as a member of the “County Travelers” out of the Sangerville area. After he moved to Machias in 1973, he formed the band “Smokey and the Bandits”, travelling all over Maine and Canada and made many appearances on the “Dick Stacey Jamboree Show”.
Cliff also enjoyed competitive archery and firearm tournaments which lead him to receiving numerous awards and trophies.
Cliff is survived by the love of his life Marilyn (Grant) Braley, to which they were fortunate enough to celebrate 60 years of marriage on November 18th, 2021. Cliff is also survived by his children whom he loved and was very proud of; Clifford A. Braley, Jr. and wife Kim of Brunswick, Troy A. Braley and wife Cindy of Waterboro/ West Gardiner, Brigitte J. (Braley) Beal and husband Chris of Addison. His grandchildren whom he adored; Brandon Colbeth and fiancée Amber Foster, Christopher Braley and wife Ashley, Erica Pitkow and husband Ben, Kailyn Braley, Karter Braley, Misty Beal, Megan Daley and husband Ryan, Desiree Stanwood and husband Troy, Brooke Beal and fiancé Nicholas Raye, Mathew Jenkins and Daniel Beal. He has 11 beautiful great-grandchildren with the 12th to be born in May 2022. His brother Clayton Braley and family of Clifton, Maine, sister Carolyn Braley and family of Skowhegan, Maine, sisters-in-law Marjorie Braley, Mary Curtis, Linda Goodridge and Beverly Grant. Brothers-in-law Joseph Grant and Edward Grant. Many nieces and nephews. His very special family from love “The Conner’s”; Darrell, Velma, Steve, Paula, Kevin, Lynette and their families.
Cliff was preceded by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Louise Grant, his parents from love Paul and Alfreda Conner, his brothers-in-law Harold Goodridge, Charles Braley, Roger Curtis, Guy Grant and Alfred Grant and sisters-in-law Janice Grant, Gloria Grant and Judy Grant. His great-grandchildren Wyatt Ethan and Novaleigh Marie-Jolene.
Cliff will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations can be made to any Dementia Charity of your choice. Service will be announced at a later date.
