I met Roland several years ago while working at Legion Square Market in South Portland where Roland was a very talented meat cutter.
Roland was a very friendly and kind man and over the course of working together, we developed a deep friendship that lasted many years, even after we were no longer working together.
Roland was the first person to introduce me to Christ, and it was his love, knowledge, and passion for the LORD, that eventually led to me becoming a Christian.
My friendship with Roland was one of the most important and significant relationships of my entire life.
Roland came to celebrate my baptism at First Baptist Church many years ago, and I asked him to be my best man at my wedding, over 20 years ago.
He came over to check out our new apartment in Standish that my wife and I first shared as a married couple.
And he shared in the joy of my wife and I welcoming our son.
I stayed in touch with his wife Barbara over the years until her passing. We exchanged letters and she kept me up to date on how my best man was doing. I was so very sad to hear of his passing last Sunday. There was hardly a day I didn’t think about him and wonder how he was doing. I know in my heart that the LORD sent Roland in my life, and I am forever grateful that He did.
I still think of you often my friend. I can’t wait to catch up with you again, in our Father’s Kingdom.
You were a blessing in my life.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of the most significant events in my life. You were one of a kind.
