Freda, Alan and Brian. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. David will surely be remembered by his former students and staff at PCHS. I always found David to be friendly and helpful when I was teaching there. I remember going to Rum pond with David and we found the "hot" spot on the pond that day. It was a fun trip. David will be missed.

Years ago when the movie Jaws was still familiar to most, Dave, my father, my brother Bob and I were fishing for blues off Bailey Island. As we were trolling along the drag on one of the reels started to slowly click. Dave looked at the rest of us and said “We need a bigger boat”. A classic memory with a classic man.

Condolences to all. I am grateful that I had a chance to visit briefly with Coach Gaw this summer. Also, seeing Freda and Brian. He helped to shape me to who I am now and forevermore. Fundamentals, leadership, untiring determination to succeed, belief in your potential, improving your abilities, the pure joy of success. I grew up with Coach Gaw as many did from age 7 - 18. Years later I would challenge youth sports coaches to look back to an influential coach that they had in their youth and to consider, was it the wins or was it the life values you gained that now matter most? In 1974 we won Penquis League title and won another game after that. Incredible memory. However, the life lessons learned from Coach Gaw ultimately affected me most. I will miss him, but will reach out to him through memories and continue forward with gratitude for the influence he has had on my life

Mrs Gaw, Brian,Alan and family,
My deepest sympathies to you and your families. He was such a special person, I will never forget him bringing the kids and I cucumbers out of his garden. Never said a word just dropped them on my steps for me to find; or the time he bring Bob a hand carved canoe he made for Bob’s birthday. He had an infectious smile. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. R.I.P. Mr. Gaw.

Sending hugs to Freda and family. David led a wonderful life. I will always cherish the fun-filled evenings of playing bridge with David and Freda when I was teaching in Guilford in the early 70's.

I remember working with Dave at PCHS “back in the day”. He was passionate about his sports, for sure. I enjoyed seeing home at Lady Pirate’s BB games which his son coached and my granddaughter was a team member Our condolences to Freda and the family. Jill Ward and Alivia Hunt.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Gaw, Brian, Alan and the rest of the family. When I heard he had passed I paused……and thought of the many memories I have. Sitting in the back of the bus with Mr. Gaw driving during JV basketball and moving my hand up and down over the red emergency light and letting out my police or fire siren. He would yell out “ Clukey cut the S&&T.” He always told me it sounded real and didn’t know if he should pull over or not. I saw him at Riverfest one year He gave me one of his Rain Delay Golf Games he made and I play it all the time.

Freda, Brian, Alan- Remember the three of you roadside with about half of Guilford watching the High School and Town Team games so many years ago. There’s not much better.
I played golf with all four of you, mostly with David. He and I were always a team when we played Dexter in Guilford-Dexter Cup. Undefeated. Another moment not to be recaptured.
The times with your dad and husband and that no good Ritchie we’re some of the best of my life. Right under that “coming of age” category. I can’t tell you. Memories are not for sale.
Although it has been awhile, the last and most fitting time that I saw Dave Gaw was at game in Portland when he was inducted into Hall of Fame. What could be better?
My sincere sympathies and best wishes to you all. Know I’ll be seeing you- Flip
