Obituary of Albert Joseph Theriault

Please share a memory of Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rockwood - Albert Joseph Theriault, 82, beloved husband of Alice Anne (Crommie) Theriault, peacefully passed away at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, on February 16, 2018. He was born February 9, 1936, in Rockwood, the son of C. Wilfred and Gertrude H. (King) Theriault. He attended the one room schoolhouse in Rockwood and Louis Oakes High School in Greenville, where he excelled at sports and helped the team win the Maine Class C Basketball Championship in 1954.

Albert graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering and was commissioned as Ensign in the United States Navy.

He and Alice were married upon his graduation at Holy Family Catholic Church in New York City in a military ceremony. They proceeded to Pensacola, FL, where Albert became a Naval Aviator. One of the happiest tours of duty was at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME, where he flew the P2V Neptune aircraft in squadrons VP-11 and VP-23.

Honorably discharged from the Naval Service, he returned to his hometown to construct the Moosehead Motel and Restaurant and first cable TV service in Rockwood. After selling the motel in 1973, he became a real estate developer and general contractor. He constructed the Kineo View Condominium (Rockwood) and Eastward on the Ocean (Rockport). His most prolific achievements were the development and construction of seventeen housing complexes throughout the State of Maine, in partnership with the USDA Rural Development for the Elderly, Disabled, and Families. Having maintained his commercial pilots license, he loved to fly his Cessna Hawk XP-II to project sites. Although he retired from general contracting in 1992 and did take some time to enjoy his passion for golf as a member of the Waterville Country Club, Albert never stopped development. His most recent accomplishments include Tower Rd. in Rockwood which enabled placement of a cell tower to service the area as well as his favorite recent project, building a camp on the shore of Moose River.

Albert had the opportunity and enjoyed working with town planning boards, carpenters, many architects, engineers, sub-contractors, lawyers, accountants, bankers, and government officials at USDA and the State of Maine. They all helped make his career and projects successful.

In addition to his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Alice, Albert is survived by his son, Thomas P. Theriault, PhD. and Christine Coleman; two brothers, Russell Theriault and his wife, Debbie, and Donald Theriault and his wife, Linda. He was predeceased by his two daughters, Deborah Helene and Anne Marie Theriault; his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Robert; and five sisters, Catherine, Marie, Flora, Melissa, and Evelyn; and parents-in-law Helena and Felix P. Crommie.

He was exceedingly proud of the accomplishments of his nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family, too many to name. Many of them worked in his construction company and have great tales to tell. He was extremely fond of his in-laws, Margaret and Charles Pfretzchner, Patricia and Edward Till, Waverlee and Felix Crommie and Brenda, Sonya and Maurice Crommie.

He also leaves special friends, Dr. Lorne and Patricia Smith, Ivon and Gail Turmel, Robert, Tammy and Emily Vraux, Kirk and Cassandra Gustin, Kimberley Larsen, Tyler Hathaway, and many more in the Moosehead lake region.

On his behalf, we would also like to thank the caring staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center who provided him with the very best of medical care and personal comfort.
