Harmony – Hartley Melvin Lake, 76, passed away January 2, 2024, peacefully in Skowhegan. He was born July 13, 1947, in Hartland, the son of Melvin H. and Lucille I. (Smith) Lake. Hartley attended school in Harmony, and married Charlotte (Woodard) in 1966. He was a man of many talents and was always keeping busy tinkering. His first job was at the Hartland Tannery; truck driving was his real passion, driving for Scott Paper and many other companies, including his own, but he also worked for Pride’s Manufacturing, and owned heavy equipment and an excavation business with his grandson, DJ. Hartley really enjoyed talking and could strike a conversation with anyone. Hartley is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Lake of Harmony; daughter, Starre White and her husband, Danny, of Parkman; three grandsons, Danny Jr., Nik, and Royce; sister, Priscilla Drisko and her husband, Bob, of Chelsea; brother, George Sprague Jr. and wife, Ronda, of Guilford; sister-in-law, Cheryl Ricker of Sangerville; brother-in-law, Martin Woodard and wife, Barbie, of Dexter; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Donna Woodard and her husband, Sheldon, and Margaret McCue; uncle, Roy Lake; brother-in-law, Garnet Ricker; father-in-law, Everett Woodard; mother-in-law, Carolyn Woodard; and step-father-in-law, Clyde Perkins. Services will be held in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
