Dover-Foxcroft- Irene Ellen Nutter, 87, passed away in her daughter’s arms, holding her hand, August 30, 2023. She grew up in the Maine woods as the only daughter of a Game Warden and her mom, Milton and Dorothy (Coose) Scribner. Irene loved telling how she went to school many times by dogsled. She loved all animals, and especially going to the race track. She loved fishing and boating. Her first job was breaking in horses for a boys’ camp every summer. After graduating high school, she went to work as a bank teller in Unity, Maine. Irene met the love of her life, Carl, and raised five children together and had a very successful business, Penquis Surge. Irene is survived by son, Michael and his wife, Shelley; daughter-in-law, Denise; son, David and his wife, Carol; son, Daniel and his wife, Carrie; and daughter, Donna and her husband, Les. She also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will miss her dearly, as will her special cat named Kiddy, who has been great company. Irene will be joining her husband, Carl Nutter, son, Mark Nutter, and granddaughter, Brandy Nutter Minder, in heaven. The family would like to thank hospice for all of their compassionate care. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, September 8, 2023, at the family lot in Rural Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
