Timothy Leon Knowlton Obituary

Abbot - We are sad to announce the passing of Timothy Leon Knowlton, 64 of Abbot, on June 28, 2026.

Tim was born on February 16, 1962, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to Colby and Gloria Knowlton of Sangerville. He graduated from Piscataquis Community High School with the class of 1980. He married his wife, Shelley (Greenleaf), in August of 1982. He spent 6 years with the Maine Air National Guard and then spent many years building houses and plowing roads all around Piscataquis County. He could be spotted with his signature “troll truck” at the job site and around town. He was very active in the community, with years coaching the Abbot baseball team, encouraging PCHS athletes with free trademark “Tim Knowlton Carpentry” hats, and always willing to lend a helping hand to any neighbor.

Shelley and his children, James and Amy, will always remember his signature laugh, his tireless work ethic, his blunt responses, and his pursuit of a good time. Tim never hesitated when it came to family - executing the wedding of Amy’s dreams, building her a garage, helping JC with a big move east and remodeling projects, and digging Shelley a pond at the “bungalow” for the kids and grandkids to enjoy were just some of the many ways that he showed his endless love of his family.

Tim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shelley; his son, James (JC) and wife, Terra, of Merrimack, NH; and daughter, Amy and husband, Roscoe, of South China, ME. Tim was known as “Grump” (for obvious reasons to any who knew him) by his four grandchildren - Colbie Jane, Jackson Timothy, Moxie Annette, and Wade Jameson. He will always be in their hearts, remembered for snuggle-naps and his giant candy bowl. He is also survived by his brother, Ray and wife, Lorena of Monson, ME, and his sister, Kathy of South Carolina. Uncle Tim will be forever remembered by his many nieces and nephews, too.

Tim would want us all to remember to show up for the ones you love, stop to lend a stranger a hand, and “get your hands outta your pockets and get ready to work”. Keep sharing the stories, lessons, and memories of him. Tim was one of a kind.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on August 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at “the bungalow” - 97 Back Road, Abbot ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
