Janet K. (Roullard) Hersey Obituary

GUILFORD – Janet K. (Roullard) Hersey, 83, passed away peacefully and entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, June 11, 2026. In accordance with her wishes, she spent her final hours lovingly surrounded by her family.

Janet was born on April 22, 1943, in Sanford, Maine, the daughter of Edward L. and Barbara (Moody) Roullard. She shared a special bond throughout her life with her twin sister, Joyce.

She graduated from Guilford High School in 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Richard C. Hersey, on February 10, 1962. Aside from the three years Richard served in the U.S. Army, the couple spent their 64 years of marriage living, working, and raising their three children in Guilford.

Janet worked for many years in the cost department at Guilford Industries before becoming an administrative assistant at Blake’s Insurance Agency. Later in life, she found great fulfillment caring for children, a role that brought her immense joy.

Janet will be remembered for her kindness, optimism, and remarkable resilience. Despite facing progressively debilitating neuropathy that greatly limited her mobility, she never complained and never gave up. She remained determined to stay involved with family and friends whenever possible.

She treasured lunches with her lifelong high school friends, with whom she maintained close friendships throughout the years. Above all else, Janet’s greatest love was her family. She delighted in sharing stories of her children and grandchildren with anyone who would listen and faithfully attended her grandchildren’s games and activities whenever she was able. Family gatherings, card games, and board games brought her tremendous happiness. One of the highlights of her final year was attending her granddaughter’s bridal shower and wedding. Even a simple phone call from her children or grandchildren could brighten her day.

One of Janet’s happiest traditions was spending time with her daughter, Karen, at her camp on Boyd Lake. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the summer, they could be found together at the lake playing games—often with a spirited sense of competition. In her earlier years at camp, Janet enjoyed swimming in the lake, taking plane rides with Dalton Dunfee, and occasional boat rides. During her later years, she was content to sit on the porch, play games on her tablet, watch the hummingbirds and boats on the lake, and look forward to visits from her step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special friend, Becky Hurd.

Janet’s legacy of love, strength, devotion, and unwavering positivity will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard, who lovingly called her “Bunny”; her three children, Richard “Scott” Hersey and wife, Rene, of Greenville, Karen Ward of Corinth, and Dr. Ronald P. Hersey, D.M.D., and wife, Deb, of Avon, Massachusetts; her four adored grandchildren, Holly Hersey of Kentucky, Henry Hersey of Florida, Danielle (Hersey) Robichaud and husband, Ryan, of Massachusetts, and Nicole Hersey of Massachusetts; her brother, Dr. Paul Roullard, D.V.M., and wife, Jane; her twin sister, Joyce Applebee and husband, Darold; and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Barbara Roullard, and her son-in-law, Ardene Ward.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Lary Funeral Home, 62 Summer Street, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
