Edward H. Webber Sr. Obituary
Ogunquit and Wells – Edward H. Webber, 91, passed away peacefully May 29, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born March 13, 1935, in York, the son of William H. and Annie E. (Staples) Webber. Ed was raised in York and lived on the Pine Hill Road. One of his first jobs was working at Joel Perkins farm, farming and working with livestock. There on Shore Road in Ogunquit lived Gertrude Gunthner just across the street from where Eddie worked. After a little courting, Eddie and Gertie were married February 10, 1954. They raised their six children while living on the Berwick Road in Ogunquit. The past thirty years they lived in Lord’s Mobile Home Park in Wells.
Ed later went to work for the Ogunquit Village Corporation before it became a town. He worked for the Ogunquit sewer district as well as a custodian at the Ogunquit Village School. Ed sometimes juggled three jobs at once to make ends meet raising their six children. Ed went on to work for the Ogunquit Highway Department along with working for many years for Abbot Bros. Tree Service in York. His final job was working for the Ogunquit Public Works Department until he retired in 1997. Ed led by example, he was a very proud, kind, and giving man. He was always helping anyone in need and never expected anything in return.
After retiring, in 1997, Ed and Gertie were lucky enough to spend winters in Clearwater Beach and St. Petersburg, Florida for over 10 winters. They enjoyed it as it reminded them of Perkins Cove. It was full of fishermen, boats, and wharfs where they fished. They made many friends there and traveled around to many flea markets. They got to enjoy the warm weather as the rest of us were freezing our behinds back here in the state of Maine.
Ed is survived by his five children, Edward H. Webber Jr. and wife, Donna, Dorothy Dutch and her husband, Dave, Jonathan L. Webber and his fiancée, Peggy, Deborah Cheney and husband, Warren, and Donna Avery and husband, Mark; thirteen grandchildren, Jeffrey, Crystal, Holly, Jessica, Nicole, Jenifer, Jonathan J., Mark Jr., Warren, Christopher, Peter, Tony, and Casey; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Sawyer. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Gertrude Webber; parents, William and Annie Webber; sister, Mary Webber; brother, William “Billy” Webber; and son, Peter W. Webber and his wife, Alicia.
The family wishes to thank Hibbard Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for their compassion and excellent care.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
