Phyllis C. Ireland Obituary

VEAZIE, Maine and ZEPHYRHILLS, Florida – Phyllis C. Ireland, 86, went to meet her Lord on May 24, 2026, at a local hospital following a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1939, in Milo, Maine, to Curtis E. and Helen V. (Ward) Chase.


She graduated from Milo High School in 1958 and Husson College in 1962. She met and fell in love with David Ireland while attending Husson College and they were married June 22, 1963. They spent the majority of their life in Veazie raising their family. Phyllis was proud of the fact that she was a stay-at-home mother raising her three sons and attending their extracurricular activities, especially hockey. After her youngest son entered high school, she went to work at the University of Maine for several years before retiring in 1997. She and David spent their retirement years traveling across the United States enjoying time in Hawaii and Alaska and spending their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida, where they met many lifelong friends and were long-time season ticket holders for University of Maine Hockey.


Phyllis was a life member of Aldworth Chapter #39, Order of the Eastern Star in Milo and a Charter member of Daughters of the Nile in Bangor. She was very creative and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, doing jigsaw puzzles and collecting Beanie Babies.


She is survived by her sons, Michael Ireland and partner, Pamela Kee of Veazie; Brian Ireland and his wife, Rita, and their son, Benjamin of Saratoga Springs, New York and Scott Ireland and Hayley Martin and their daughter, Isabelle of Veazie; and step-granddaughters, Jessica and Samantha and step-great-grandchildren, Molly and Nolan. Phyllis is also survived by her sister, Alice Hatch; sisters-in-law, Tina Chase, Shirley Chase, Carolanne Ireland and Frances Coburn, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, David L. Ireland; brothers, Paul and Gordon Chase; brothers-in-law, John Ireland and Dennis Hatch. She will be remembered by special friends, Ken and Jeannie Smith, Terry, Mary Lou and Robyn Chase, Mary Landry, Harriet and Jim Brown, Wes Hewins, Arlene Boucher, and Joyce Chase.


A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. at the Sebec Corner Cemetery on Friday, June 12, 2026. A reception will follow at the Masonic Hall in Milo. Donations in her memory may be made to the Susan G.
