James Lyle Macomber Obituary

Dover-Foxcroft - James “Jim” Lyle Macomber, passed away at home on May 1, 2026 with his family by his side. He was born on July 22, 1964, the son of William G. and Jane (Mealey) Macomber.

James is survived by his daughters, Crystal Rose Macomber of Littleton, NH, and Virginia Jane Macomber of Quincy, MA; his life partner of 12 years, Callie Moran; and his stepson, Kelsey Oliver. He is also survived by his father, William George Macomber I; his brother, William George Macomber II; nephews, William George Macomber III and Benjamin Macomber; and niece, Meagan Jubinville. He was predeceased by his mother, Jane Macomber, who held a special place in his life.

James graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1983 and was a lifetime resident of Dover-Foxcroft and Piscataquis County. He had a passion for serving the community in various ways. In high school he worked with Mayo Regional Hospital as an EMT. After high school, he attended EMVTI where he studied culinary arts. After returning to Dover, he worked for many years as a photographer and ad salesman at the Piscataquis Observer. After leaving the Observer, he spent over 20 years with Penquis supporting small businesses and families throughout Maine.

He was also involved in various community organizations and was a loyal member of the Milo Kiwanis club for many years. He worked closely with the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Association of Maine, and was a board member for the local food cupboard.

Aside from his work with the community, James loved the outdoors. As a young child, he joined the Boy Scouts of America and in high school was awarded the highest honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. James loved anything outdoors, from canoeing, hiking, motorcycling and waterfall finding to Geo-caching in the Maine wilderness. He was always seeking his next adventure. When he wasn’t in the woods, James could be found supporting his daughters at school and sporting events. He never missed a game, cheerleading competition or track meet.
