John "Jack" E. Leeman Obituary
Abbot - John “Jack” Leeman passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 25, 2026, at the age of 87. Jack was born on October 6, 1938, in Monson, Maine, the son of Victor and Charlotte (Fitzsimmons) Leeman.
Jack “Ripper” (his CB handle) worked as a truck driver, equipment operator, and hunting guide for much of his life, and he loved to tell stories about his many exploits. He was a fisherman, a hunter, and a gifted storyteller. His passion was helping people, and he was happiest when he felt needed. His proudest accomplishments were being 45 years sober and his work with Alcoholics Anonymous as a counselor, sponsor, and example to countless men and women.
People will fondly remember Jack’s booming laughter, his loud voice spinning a tale, and his ability to laugh at himself. His personality filled every room; his ability to start a conversation with anyone was unparalleled. His stories of logging, coon and bear hunting, and teaching himself to read at the age of 4 will live on in all our hearts. Ripper will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Tammy; son-in-law, Greg; four grandchildren, Hollie, Rick, Mark, and Dakota; 16 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters; Dotty and Jeanette; wife, Lorraine; daughter, Susan; and beloved dog, Megan.
A memorial celebrating Jack’s life will be held Sunday, May 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Abbot Town Hall. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
