Guilford and Abbot - Joyce Evelyn Steeves Moore, 95, beloved mother, wife, daughter, Grammy and Great Grammy went to her eternal resting place early April 4, 2026, after a weeklong send off with her family and friends at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft, after a long battle with dementia. They became part of her family there and she was well loved and cared for. She was born September 10, 1930, in Fairfield, Maine, the only daughter of Edith Roberts and Stanley Steeves .
Joyce grew up in Sangerville and graduated from Sangerville High School, Class of 1948. Later that year she married Gayland A. “Dinty” Moore Jr .of Abbot on Sept.10th, and they lived upstairs at her parents’ home until after their first child, Roxanne, was born, and they bought their first house on Hudson Avenue in Guilford. They had two more children and moved to a small house on the Pond Road in Abbot in 1963. Dinty traded some land for two camp lots and (with lumber from trees on their own land) built a camp on Piper Pond in 1973, where they enjoyed many happy summers and ice fishing with family and friends. Joyce worked as a home health aide after the kids left home, and then went to work at Guilford Woolen Mill as a mender for several years. She dearly loved her family and friends “And a Good time was had by All”.
After her husband passed away in 2002, she moved to Riverbend Apartments in Guilford. She attended classes at Community Fitness and also volunteered at Mayo Regional Hospital where she logged over 1000 hrs at the front desk assisting patients.
Joyce was predeceased by her adoring husband in 2002, and her oldest daughter, Roxanne Moore Saucier in 2024. She leaves behind a daughter, Maureen Moore Taylor and her husband, Scott of Parkman; a son, Patrick Michael Moore and his wife, Shannon of Sangerville; five grandsons, Scott Saucier and his wife, Amanda of China, Tony Saucier and his wife, Heather of Minnesota, Christopher Taylor of Hermon, Mark Moore and wife, Brookie of Guilford, and Erik Moore and wife; Lindsey of Carmel; granddaughter, Stephanie Taylor Zimmerman and husband, Andrew of Dixmont; 13 great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Diana Fowles of Monson and Andria Leonard of Dexter.
A private graveside service will be held this spring in the Abbot Village Cemetery. Donations can be made in her memory to a local pet shelter. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
