Edward P Murphy Obituary

Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Malden, MA, and Winchester, MA – Edward P. Murphy, 76, passed away at his home on December 11, 2025. He was born June 23, 1949, the son of Edward Carroll and Helen C. (Peterson) Murphy.

Ed worked as a fire fighter for the Winchester Fire Department for 33 years before retiring June 26th, 2004.

Around the fire department he was known as the “Guru” or simply, “Murph.” He was a wealth of knowledge and never at a loss for words. He would put his unique way of thinking into any conversation, from firehouse politics to sports. He would hold court at the old watch desk with anyone who braved his presence and share stories, old and present. You couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say next. Ed was always entertaining, thoughtful and with great meaning.

Ed had a heart of gold, remembering the smallest details of his co-workers and their families. He never missed a chance to send flowers for a wake or funeral, especially a brother firefighter or member of their family. Ed was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he served as a reservist. He continued his support for the U.S. Military making regular contributions to Veterans organizations and supporting local Veterans groups. He was also a life-long admirer of Bulldogs and always had one by his side. Another passion of his was motorcycles, mostly older ones; Harley Davidsons, Triumph and Moto Guzi to mention a few. On more than one occasion, he was fortunate enough to travel across the United States on a motorcycle. He would love to tell his stories from those road trips. He truly was an adventurer, living life the way he wanted.

Edward is survived by his sister-in-law, Gail; nephews, Peter and Neil Murphy; and his beloved Bulldog, Sammy.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Peter.
