D. Wayne Dillon Sr. Obituary

Brownville - D. Wayne Dillon Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Brownville, Maine. He was born in Lewiston, Maine, to Joseph F. and Florence (Mayberry) Dillon. Wayne lived a life of passion for the outdoors and all that came with it earning him the title of "The Legend".

Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served overseas in Guantanamo Bay during the Vietnam conflict, a time in his life that reflected his sense of duty, courage, and commitment to his country.

Wayne's career as a Master Guide culminated in building Dillon's Gunsmoke Lodge and that was his greatest professional achievement where he formed many special friendships. If you asked his family, they would say that his 50 years of sobriety was his greatest personal achievement.

Wayne was the beloved husband of Grace Dillon and a devoted father to his two surviving children, Angela and Bud. Angela and her significant other, James Matthews Jr. and Bud and his wife, Carolyn were a great source of pride for Wayne; he was always happy to hear all about their life's adventures. Angela’s children, Devin, Jessica, Krishanna, and Phillip, and Bud’s children, Joshua, Brianne, and Brooklyn brought many hours of entertainment to his life. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren, with baby Gracie soon to arrive, who would have made ten.

A man of deep faith, Wayne found comfort and purpose in his relationship with God. He especially loved to commune in nature. He was known for his steady presence, and unwavering love for his family.

A memorial service including military honors to celebrate Wayne’s life led by Rev. Jack Williams and Chaplain Paul Dunfee will be held at the Brownville Community Church on Saturday, January 24th, at 1:00 p.m. A reception of fellowship will follow at the church, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s honor to the Maine Youth Fish and Game Association, P.O. Box 337, Stillwater, Maine 04489.

Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Memories and messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com
