Vernon A. Hodgkins Obituary

Vernon Albert Hodgkins passed away on November 27, 2025 at Dexter Health Care at the age of 91.


Vernon was born on July 24, 1934 in Temple Maine to Mary and Albert Hodgkins. He served in the US Navy and then attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He worked at Andover Earth Station – Telstar’s US Earth Station in Andover, Maine, AT&T, New England Telephone and Verizon before retiring.


Vernon married Betty May Staples on December 31, 1960, raising four daughters on a farm in Atkinson, Maine. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 20. 1981. He enjoyed sharing the Bible’s message with people. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His love of the outdoors translated into enjoying hunting, fishing and camping with his family, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren.


He is predeceased by his beloved wife Betty of 64 years, his parents, and his sister, Helene. He is survived by his four daughters – Debra of Atkinson, Cynthia of Atkinson, Karen of Clinton, and Brenda and her husband, Josiah of Blackstone, Massachusetts and grandchildren – Kirk, Dani Lee and her partner, Dave, Ryan and Nikki.


The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the excellent care received from the staff at Dexter Health Care, Gentiva Hospice and Mayo Hospital.


A memorial service will be held on January 17, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 472 West Main St, Milo, Maine.
