Stephen H. Whitesel Obituary

Dexter – Stephen H. Whitesel, 82, passed away peacefully November 5, 2025, at home with family by his side. He was born April 24, 1943, in Spokane, Washington, the son of Raymond and Elsie (Beckwith) Whitesel.


Steve is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie (O’Toole) Whitesel; daughters, Mindy Sue Totten, Hannah Whitesel, Elizabeth McLain, and Karen Kreszswick; son, Francis Block; sister, Janice Alldredge (Dale); grandchildren Katherine, Nicholas, Olivia, Ian, Alex and Taylor (Patrick); and the mother of Hannah, Jennifer S. Whitesel. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Lance Whitesel (Jennifer); and sisters, Lynn Malcolm (Rick), Judi Ocio (Rolando), and Geri Rodin (Sid).


Steve was a proud veteran who served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Major. He served two tours: Vietnam and Thailand earning a bronze star. After returning to the states he served 14 years as an Intelligence Officer and then was with the Nuclear Defense Agency. His final assignment was with Welfare, Morale and Recreation at Loring Air Force Base.


When he was discharged, he made his life here in Maine, finding his way to Dexter. Then he became the town manager for a brief period in the towns of Corinna and Belfast. Next, he became the manager of Dexter and served his community for about 10 years. After a brief retirement he became the administrator of Bingham Nursing Home and then Nursing Home Director of Dexter Health Care for 5 years. Finally, he retired and enjoyed being a Dad for many years, as well as fishing for bass and being a lifetime member of the VFW. He then became a member of Dexter Age Friendly Committee where he met his wife Rosemarie. They were married for 3 wonderful years.


Visitations for family and friends will be held 6PM Tuesday, November 18, 2025, until time of memorial service with military honors at 7PM, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor John Marquis officiating. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
