Ellen L. (Reardon) DeWitt Obituary

MILO – Ellen L. (Reardon) DeWitt, 79, of Milo, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on February 20, 1946, in Milo, Maine, she was the cherished daughter of Joseph P. and Eleanor I. (Mitchell) Reardon.

Ellen married the love of her life, Edwin DeWitt, on June 24, 1967. Together, they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage filled with laughter, partnership, and devotion. Their life together was rooted in Milo, where they built a home rich in love and family, and they found joy during their winters in Haines City, Florida.

A lifelong resident of Milo, Ellen was a proud and respected businesswoman who owned and operated Ellen DeWitt Real Estate for many years. Earlier in her career, she worked with Worcester Real Estate, where she discovered her passion for helping families find not just houses, but homes. Through her work, she touched countless lives and became a trusted name in her community.

Ellen’s commitment to Milo extended far beyond her business. She was deeply involved in civic and community life, giving freely of her time and talents. She was a member of the Maine Order of the Eastern Star, Aldworth Chapter #39, a devoted participant in the Park Street United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Daughters of the Nile, a member of the D.A.R., and an enthusiastic member of the Garden Club. She also broke barriers as the first woman in Milo to serve on the Select Board, a testament to her courage, leadership, and dedication to her town.

Those who knew Ellen will remember her vibrant spirit and zest for life. She found joy in simple pleasures—gathering with friends, attending Milo High School reunions, joining Eastern Star events, camping, and traveling. She had a knack for finding treasures at yard sales and loved the excitement of bingo and visiting casinos during her Florida winters. One of her greatest joys was officiating weddings—over 300 couples were joined in marriage by her kind and joyful presence.

Ellen was the matriarch of her family and the light of every gathering, radiating warmth, laughter, and love. Her kindness and generosity created a sense of belonging for everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Edwin DeWitt; her beloved son, Steven DeWitt, and his wife, Brandie; her treasured grandson, Brayden DeWitt; and dear nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Eleanor Reardon; her grandson, Logan Steven DeWitt; and her brother, Thomas F. Reardon, Sr.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 4PM Thursday, November 13, until time of Order of the Eastern Star service at 6:30PM, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A memorial service will be held 1PM Friday, November 14, at the Park Street United Methodist Church, Milo, with Pastor Jim Mello officiating. Immediately after the service all are invited to the Three Rivers Kiwanis Building for continued celebration of Ellen’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellen’s memory to the Park Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 116, Milo, Maine 04463.

Ellen will be remembered for her unwavering strength, her compassionate heart, and the joy she brought to every life she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on in her family, friends, and community.

Love ya, miss ya, Bang.
