4 Trees or Condolences have been sent in support of Roger’s family — View on Tribute Wall
Roger Leslie Tatro, born on October 4, 1946, in Concord, New Hampshire, grew up in his hometown of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and passed away on October 4, 2025, in Augusta, Maine, at the age of 79.
Roger proudly served his country with distinction. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later continued his service in the United States Coast Guard. His dedication and skill were recognized through several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Expert Pistol Medal, and the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon.
Beyond his military service, Roger was known for his deep love of the outdoors. A lifelong hunter and fisherman, he found joy and peace in nature. His compassion extended to animals as well—he was an animal lover throughout his life. Despite being a self-described "Dover Foxcroft Hermit," Roger also had a generous spirit and a strong sense of community; he often mowed lawns for friends and neighbors and lent a helping hand with home projects whenever needed.
Roger is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Joy Lewis; grandchildren, Kiersten and Cedric Lewis; sisters, Edna Tatro Laplante, Sandra, and Theresa; and brothers, Gordon Tatro and Joseph Tatro. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Tatro Sr. and Eleanor Stevens Barnes, as well as his daughter, Andrea Leslie Tatro.
May Roger’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life marked by service, generosity, and quiet strength.
A time of visitation will be held 3-5PM Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Lary Funeral Home in Dover-Foxcroft.
