Barbara Marie McAvoy Obituary

Parkman – Barbara Marie McAvoy, 87, passed away peacefully August 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. She was born January 10, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut, the daughter of George A. and Pauline M. (Bayersdorfer) Reinholt.


Barbara started her family off in New Canaan, CT, after meeting Paul through a mutual friend in 1958. While raising her family, she was a stay at home mom, while also volunteering at several different convalescent homes in the area. She enjoyed putting together family gatherings and was especially known for her New Year’s Day parties. In 1984, Paul & Barbara started their very successful Mermaid Pool Water business until their retirement in 2008. After retirement they moved to Parkman, Maine to the family farm. She made many friends over the years, and no one was a stranger in her presence. She loved her weekly breakfast club outings with the ladies and enjoyed family visits. Barbara was known for her vivacious personality and love of fashion and was never seen without a stylish hat or brooch. She had a love of Classic country music with her foot always moving to the beat.


She loved her animals, both domestic and wild, including skunks, raccoons & deer. She never left food on the table while dining out, it always came home in a to go box for the animals.


Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Paul McAvoy Sr. of Parkman; son, Paul McAvoy Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Sangerville; daughter, Sharon Hanba and her husband, Erik, West Olive, MI; granddaughter, Lindsay Sands and her husband, Garrett; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Cohen, and Aubrey Sands, all of Dover-Foxcroft; siblings, Eleanor DeMatteo of California, Judy Reinholt and her significant other, Daphne of California, Nancy Khanna and her husband, Tril of Colorado, and Fred Reinholt and his wife, Nicole of Cornville; sister-in-law, Betsy Reinholt of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Babe. She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, Anna Eberhardt, George Reinholt, and David Reinholt.


A graveside memorial service will be held 11AM Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Lawn Cemetery, Guilford. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
