Louis W. Ritter Jr. Obituary

Milo – Louis W. Ritter Jr., 86, passed away July 10, 2025, at his home. He was born April 13, 1939, in Baltimore City, Maryland, the son of Hazel (Foreman) and Louis W. Ritter, Sr.


Louis is survived by his children, Sherry Perkins, Kelly Jones, and Robert Ritter; seven grandchildren, Nathanael, Kristin, Michael, John, Jacob, R.J. and Rhett; and seven great-grandchildren, Scholar, Emory, Berkeley, Sage, Ziva, Althea, and Karah. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, John Vaughn; his wife, Roberta Wood Ritter; his son, Louis Ritter III; and his two grandsons, Nicholas Perkins and Joshua Jones, and a granddaughter, Rhianna Ritter.


He would like to be best remembered for membership in his local Sea Scouts troop, and the Boy Scouts of America when he was a youth. As an adult, he became a BSA Pack Cubmaster. He was a 1957 graduate from Dundalk High School, Dundalk, Maryland. He lettered in varsity lacrosse. He was enlisted in the Dundalk High School Navy ROTC program.


Upon high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy. There, he served aboard Navy destroyers USS Purdy, and the USS Norris as an electrician. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as an electrician at Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point, Maryland.


Then, he pursued a career in the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police. He worked both inland and marine divisions, ultimately retiring as a Captain from the Natural Resources Police. He was instrumental in building hunter and boating safety programs for the Department of Natural Resources. He was a firearms instructor at the Natural Resources Police Academy.


He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, and the American Legion.


Upon retirement, he relocated from Maryland to Maine, where he rests this day – a man of honor, purpose, duty and humor—a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather.


A celebration of Louis’ life will be held 4-6PM Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Lary Funeral Home, 62 Summer Street, Dover-Foxcroft. A celebration of life in Maryland will be held 2PM Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the American Legion in Denton, Maryland. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
