Abbot, ME and East Hartford, CT - Carolyn (Daggett) Whaley, 92, of East Hartford, CT, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Vernon Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Milo, Maine, the daughter of the late Albert and Evelyn (Lovejoy) Daggett. She grew up in Medford, Maine and graduated from Milo High School, Class of 1951. She was married to her late husband, Ronald Whaley, for 26 years.
Carolyn cherished her childhood growing up on her family farm. She often spoke fondly of this period of her life and the influence it had on her. She later moved to East Hartford, CT after graduating high school. There she worked as a jet engine air/fuel line assembler for over 40 years at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, until her retirement in 1994. She took pride in her job and her work ethic.
Despite living in Connecticut, Carolyn’s heart remained in the state of Maine. A small cottage on Piper Pond in Abbot, ME served as her second home for more than 60 years. ‘The camp,’ as she affectionately called it, embodied what she truly loved. She enjoyed nature through activities such as gardening, swimming, jet skiing, and ATVing. She connected with her local friends and family through a simple cup of coffee, a cookout or dinner, or a long visit on a rainy day. She took comfort in watching sunsets over Russell Mountain and the sound of loon calls in the night.
Carolyn was first and foremost dedicated to her family and friends. She served as a loyal and constant presence in the lives of those she cared about. She was always there to celebrate the joys of life and was an unyielding source of comfort and strength in times of need. She would never hesitate to make a phone call, send a message or go visit someone just to catch up. If you were loved by her, you enjoyed a special place in life.
Carolyn lived life to the fullest. She found happiness in many things over the years, such as traveling the country by train, crocheting, learning about family history, playing a game of cards, and making homemade chicken soup. She rarely missed an episode of Days of Our Lives or the Oprah Winfrey Show. She had a special place in her heart for animals, including her most recent dogs Baby, Tatiana, Cooper, and Caoimhe. She also was unofficially the world’s greatest cook and pie maker.
Carolyn is survived by her son, James Cerrigione Jr. (fiancée, Donna McEachern)of Bolton, CT; her son, Martin (Claire-Louise) Cerrigione of Enfield, CT; her daughter, Sandra Whaley of East Hartford, CT; her son, Daniel Whaley of Wolfeboro, NH; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Daggett; six brothers, Paul, David, Keith, Norman, Harvey and Edwin Daggett; one grandchild; several sisters-in-law, including Verna Bee, Mary Ruth Daggett, Alice Daggett, Claire Daggett, Margaret Lovejoy, and Geraldine LeBretton; and many extended family members and friends.
Friends and family are welcome to gather for a graveside burial on Friday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Abbot Village Cemetery in Abbot, Maine, followed by a reception at Abbot Town Hall. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor Carolyn’s memory by spending time with a family member or friend, being kind to an animal, or doing something in nature. Carolyn’s family would like to thank Jackie, Rachel, and many others for their kind and compassionate care at Vernon Health & Rehabilitation Center.
