Obituary of Glenn W. Annis

Parkman- Glenn Wayne Annis, 54, tragically passed away on May 22, 2025, in an automobile accident. According to a middle school essay of his, “September 23rd, 1970, a star was born,” to Cynthia and Donald Annis at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. Glenn was a “Monson Slater” at heart, attending Monson Elementary, followed by SeDoMoCha Middle School. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy High School in 1988. Glenn was enthusiastic about basketball, playing from a young age through high school and continuing into college. He carried on his passion of basketball into adulthood, playing in the local Men’s League. Glenn attended Unity College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries with a concentration in Conservation Law. He spent time guiding fishermen on Spencer Lake at Hardscrabble Lodge, before proudly joining the Maine Warden Service in 1993. Glenn aspired to be a Game Warden from a young age and dedicated his adult life to serving the Maine outdoor community and wildlife. In addition to being a district warden of the Moosehead Lake Region, Glenn was an instructor of the Warden Service Firearm Team. He was also a member of the overhead team responsible for Search and Rescue. He received several distinguished honors including Meritorious and Exemplary Service awards. Glenn was a Sergeant for many years before ending his 27-year career of service to the State. Upon retirement, Glenn continued to serve the public while following his passions. This included providing security for Northern Outdoors Center, caretaking a historic camp on Big Benson Pond, and supplying predator control for Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. His passion for the outdoors encompassed all seasons, and included hunting, fishing, gardening, picking fiddleheads, and tinkering on his Toyota collection. He took great pride in the harvests of the seasons and having the expertise to preserve his harvests. Glenn was thrilled to extend his love for outdoorsmanship through providing opportunities for his family and friends to have successful harvest experiences. He always stayed engaged with his passions and interests throughout his life. Glenn was a compassionate man who approached life with a quiet, gentle presence. He was eloquent, knowledgeable, and intelligent. Glenn had an amazing sense of humor with a winning grin. He was a very skilled and capable outdoorsman who could always trust his situational intuition in a variety of settings. Most importantly, Glenn was proud of his daughter’s accomplishments, cheering them on with constructive but loving enthusiasm throughout their academic and sports careers. He was blessed with his first granddaughter in 2022, who quickly became one of his biggest joys throughout the last several years of his life. He had a huge heart, full of love for life of all forms. Glenn is survived by the love of his life, Pamela Schmidt; his parents, Donald and Cynthia Annis; his daughters, Julia (Robert Haseltine) Annis and Jillian Annis; his granddaughter, Violet Jo Stephens; his brother, Ryan (Hannah) Annis; his niece, Laura Annis; and anybody who had the pleasure to hunt and fish with him. Glenn was predeceased by his grandparents Reginald and Hazel Annis, and Glenwood and Ada Cobb. A celebration of life will be held 12-4PM Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Tenney House, located at 47 Tenney Hill Road, Monson, Maine. Per Glenn’s style, please dress casually and comfortably. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations in his memory will go towards an educational fund for his beloved granddaughter, Violet Jo Stephens.
