Obituary of Les W. Washburn

Les W. Washburn, son of Lawrence and Louise Washburn of Lincoln Center, Maine, went peacefully to be with his Lord Jesus Christ recently at the age of 81 while surrounded by his family in his home. Les was predeceased by 4 siblings: Dottie, Gregory, Larry and Lita (Washburn) Mullins. He is survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years Sharon, their two children, daughter Robin and her husband Brent Porter, and son Brent and his wife Sandee. Grandchildren Liam Porter and wife Emily, Hannah (Washburn) Hylton and husband Will, Gabe Washburn and wife Alli, Grace, Lydia, Zoe and Caleb. Great-grandchild Levi Washburn. He is also survived by siblings Mike and wife Nancy, Gary, and Mark and wife Debbie as well as many nieces and nephews. Les has one grandbaby and four great-grandbabies that greeted his entry into Heaven. Les served 4 years in the USAF in California. Returning to Maine he worked at the Bangor Daily News for 13 years, ran various businesses, built 2 homes with his wife, and had a lifetime filled with hunting, fishing and trapping adventures that he shared with his forever buddy, Buzzy Cox. Les will be remembered for his storytelling and humor as well as his love for his family, his friends, his church, and his impact on young people. Les will be most remembered for his grit and determination through life’s lessons and for his love for God’s Creation that he so desired to pass on to others. Les desired most to finish his race well in the eyes of the Lord. The funeral will be held Monday, May 19th, 1pm at New Life Baptist Church, 2385 Dexter Rd., Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, with a time of fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Life Baptist Church.
