Obituary of Dorothy H. Finnemore
Sangerville - Dorothy H. Finnemore, 93, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025. She was born on September 14, 1931, in Hampden, Maine, the youngest child to Helen (Woodbury) French and Harold Ellingwood, Jr.
Dot was a hard worker and held positions in retail, hospitality, manufacturing and healthcare. She was most proud, and so were her children, of obtaining her GED and becoming a CNA in later years. She worked into her 70’s at local nursing homes and private duty, even traveling to Florida with a family to care for a loved one.
Over the years she enjoyed playing cards weekly with a group of friends who took turns hosting at their homes. She looked forward to Thursdays and playing bingo at the American Legion Post 29 where she was a long time member. She reveled in winning and enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow players. For many years she actively participated in the choir and UMW at United Methodist Church in Dover-Foxcroft. She was instrumental in raising funds for their kiosk sign. She also enjoyed her membership and fellowship in the GFWC Miosac Club.
Everyone who knew Dot, knew how deeply she loved her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her sons, Jeffrey, Garfield and Robert; and 1 grandson. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth “Brad” of Dover-Foxcroft, and Joseph and his wife, Susan of West Yarmouth, MA; daughter, Lorraine Boston and her husband, Clayton “Sonny” of Sanford; as well as 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for the loving care they showed over the past 4 months and to the exceptional nurses at Northern Light Mayo Hospital.
Family and friends are invited to call from 12 noon until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 pm, Wednesday April 16, 2025, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, officiated by Chaplain Gail Januskiewicz. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to American Legion Post 29, 112 Park Street, Dover Foxcroft, ME 04426. Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
