Obituary of Violet Ethel Grant
Brownville - Violet Ethel Grant, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 31, 1939, in Brownville, Maine, Violet was one of seven children including her beloved sister, Ruby “Babe” Grindle and brother, Keith Rendzia. She graduated from Brownville Junction High School in 1957 and went on to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree, dedicating much of her life to caring for others.
In her younger years, Violet spent her summers working at the elegant Claremont Hotel in Southwest Harbor, where she developed a lifelong love for the ocean. This love was something she shared generously, taking her family to the coast many times each year to enjoy its beauty and peace.
Violet met the love of her life, Arthur “Buster” Grant, and together they made their home in Brownville, Maine. They raised four children—Richard, Cheryl, Kim, and Garth—whom she adored with all her heart. Violet’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother to Amanda and Mackenzie Grant and Lydia Chase. Her love for her children was unwavering and unconditional, and her legacy of care and strength lives on in them.
In addition to her role at home, Violet held numerous jobs throughout her life. She worked at the Dexter Shoe Factory, served at the Brownville school, and compassionately cared for others as a CNA. Her dedication to her work and community was evident in everything she did.
A devoted member of the Brownville Community Church, Violet gave her time and heart to her faith. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, active member of the Social Committee, sang in the church choir and was honored with the Deacon Emeritus Award for her many years of faithful service. Her spiritual strength and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Violet also had a passion for travel, taking her children on adventures to places like Boston, New York, Arkansas, and Disney World in Florida. These trips created cherished memories filled with laughter, discovery, and love.
Violet Ethel Grant leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and devotion to family and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Violet’s life will be held at the Brownville Community Church May 12th at 12 noon. There will be refreshments to follow at the Parish Hall at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the church she so dearly loved.
A special thank you to the team at Westgate Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer's Care in Bangor.
She now rests in peace, reunited with loved ones gone before, her spirit forever carried in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
