Obituary of Richard "Red" Roberts

Rockwood - Richard “Red” Roberts born on June 17, 1943, and passed peacefully on March 9, 2025, in his home on Moosehead Lake in Maine, surrounded by his children and friends, after a well-fought and courageous battle with cancer. Richard “Red” Roberts was a pillar of the community, successfully owning and operating a full-service automotive center in Dracut, MA, for 39 years. Known for his mechanical prowess and friendly demeanor, Red could always be found puttering in his garage or embarking on adventures around Moosehead Lake with his best friend, Jim Build (the grumpy old men of Rockwood). He loved cutting wood, jet skiing, gardening, and spending quality time with his children. He enjoyed going to “Happy Hour” every day at 3pm at Jim Build’s house. Richard served as the Vice President of the Black Point Road Association and was affectionately known as the mayor of Baker Cove by those who knew him well. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Juliette Roberts of Lawrence, MA, and his beloved wife, Nancy J. Roberts, formerly of Tyngsboro, MA. He is survived by his three children, Julianne Roberts of Windham, NH, Stephen Roberts and husband, James Clark of Las Vegas, NV, and Nicole Roberts and her life partner, David Forster of Windham, NH; and several nieces and nephews. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for life will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace, Red. A Celebration of Life will be held in Rockwood, ME, sometime in May. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
